Controlling Display Output

You can control how the netstat and ifconfig commands display output:

You can set the value of DEFAULT_IP to IP_VERSION4, IP_VERSION6, or BOTH. If you do not create this file specifying the DEFAULT_IP, the ping, netstat, ifconfig, and traceroute commands will display both versions.

Note - The inet or inet6 keyword options used as part of the command-line argument override the value set in the inet_type file (if it exists) when using the ping, netstat, ifconfig, and traceroute commands.

See How to Control the Display Output in Chapter 2.
