My first mountaineering trip was in December 1997, for 3 weeks in New Zealand, in the Mt Cook national park with Bevan Anderson, my regular climbing partner.
We did the Alpine Guides Technical Mountaineering course up on the Tasman Glacier, and general climbing around the area, including a drunken assault (successful!) on Mt Olivier (the first mountain climbed by Sir Edmund Hillary).
Febuary 1999 saw Bevan, Dr James Broadford and I in NZ again, haviuing a climb around Kelman hut, and spending a few nights high on the Fox glacier in a snowcave. Bevan's photos are here.
